Any idea what your office or school’s total yearly budget for ink and toner might be? Personally I think it is one reason why tuitions are so high and no one can afford to hire. Keeping printers printing well and efficiently is very expensive, although still cheaper in many instances that investing in the hard and software to get an office completely paperless. We will all be investing in printer paper and ink cartridge for a long time to come.
In fact, it is that very waiting period that most printer and toner manufacturers are counting on to turn profits. Have you ever noticed that shavers are cheap but replacement blades are very expensive? Or if you buy a video game consol you end up spending as much or move on games every year just so it can get used? Or how about free programs online—ITunes is free to download buy buying songs gets expensive. The idea is called the aftermarket, hooking consumers on an initial product in order to continue selling them accessories or add ons long into the future. The printer and ink market is one of the more famous examples. Many manufacturers are easily willing to make a product that costs them money rather than makes them money (the printer) so that you’ll continue buying expensive ink that is cheap for them to make for the life of that printer. It is a clever system. Your Canon PG 2110XL might be a tidy sum, but expect the Canon PG-210XL ink to actually drain you of much more money over its lifetime.
Faced with this your strategy, fist off, should be research. Not only are you going to look for a printer that is in your price range, prints well, and has a good lifespan—but you want a printer with relatively cheap packs of toner or ink after your initial trial or starter pack (which are always very low volume) goes dry.
However, even if you did buy that expensive Canon PGI-220BK and it seems like you’re roped into premium priced Canon PGI-220BK ink for the next five years you may be interested to hear about another option. Not a fool-proof option, but one to look into
Remanufactured toner, called such as the cartridges are either made from recycled original packs or made in imitation of the original manufacturer’s work, are the one major threat to the aftermarket monopoly the big printer sellers continually gun for. These packs, which you can find in office supply stores both down the street and on the web, are usually far cheaper than the genuine material but their quality can be questionable, something that the name band sellers continually trumpet. It is interesting to note, however, that a quality remanufactured cartridge will actually tend to have more pages of print in it, for maybe a quarter of the cost, than the genuine cartridge.
If you go on eBay or Amazon right now to start looking for toner packs you are probably going to begin by typing the long tail phrase of what pack you are looking for (brand + model + color) and then sorting by price. Unfortunately this may not be the best plan. Quality does cost and by sorting top to bottom you really tend to focus in on oversees mass-produced imitation cartridges that dry out quickly and do not work well. Plus they typically take a month or at least two weeks to arrive. Searching up in price, however, is no guarantee that others sellers are hawking the same product and just increasing the price to make it seem like their product is better quality.
Shop somewhere where you have customer service, a reliable presence, and different quality options listed together. Large ink sellers like 247 Inktoner or Inktech will tend to have a very convenient scroll down list of printer manufacturers, models, and cartridge types along with remanufactured, high capacity, color, and genuine options for each. This allows you to start an account (which can save you money over time), take advantage of special sales when they come up, and also have control and choice when it comes to selecting which cartridge you are going to need for whatever period you are buying for. You avoid the premium prices of the OEM and know that you have a real and dedicated company of professionals to stand by their product, ensuring that your printers keep rolling out great text for less for years to come.

Office printers are often associated with the old prints that take up a ton of space, give spotty print outs, and are always out of toner, but the new Canon imageRUNNER C3480 is here to break all the preconceived notions about office printers. One big thing that sets it apart from other printers that you would see in an office is that is offers both gray scale and color printing, it’s great for an office that wants to be able to print their own presentations out without having to go to a third party to have them made.
Along those same lines, there are a number of accessibility options on the Canon imageRUNNER C3480 that make this one of the best printers that an office can get their hands on. When you print you have the options of adding a hole-punch to the pages that you are printing out, for anyone that has had to compile multiple presentation binders they know how much time and effort this can save. Additionally the printer has an extensive stacking capacity, so the time that you save on the presentations will not have to be spent fixing the printed papers, which is a common problem for other office printers.
Finally one of the best features that make this printer one of the best that you can have in an office is its ability to connect to the internet. This means that anyone in the entire office has the ability to print from the internet right on the user interface of the printer. With so many businesses relying on cloud storage and hosting their files online, anyone can print online files right from the printer. At the same time there are a number of security settings that will make it so that you never have to worry about anyone without the proper clearance using your printer.
You probably use Wikipedia all the time. You might even have a favorite wikipedia page on a topic you refer to often. Or maybe you just check Wikipedia first every time you are googling for some factual info. But how exactly does a Wikipedia page get started, and who ensures its accuracy?
The truth is anyone can start an article at Wikipedia on any topic. You could start one on yourself, or on snod grass, or reverse purple brickwork. If you think that sounds insane, think again – if the article you start seems ridiculous to other people, they can report it. Then it is brought to the attention of volunteer editors who take a look at it and evaluate it. They might decide the article can stay, but needs to be rewritten, or they might decide the article is not a relevant or useful topic and delete it completely.
It is a similar communal, vigilante style of policing that ensures accuracy on each page on Wikipedia. Let us say, for example, that you are a professor of history. You specialize in World War II France. Just for kicks, you decide to take a look at the Wikipedia article on the French Resistance. When you get there you see that someone has filled the article with a lot of pro-Hitler nonsense. Or maybe they just got a lot of facts wrong. Well, are you going to laugh and close the browser? No, this topic is near and dear to you so you will likely click edit and get to work remedying the errors.
This is how Wikipedia works. Any given article at any given time can contain inaccuracies, but because of the power of community review, the overall quality of Wikipedia is quite high. This is why so many people trust it as a first source for researching something.
Here is a question for you. How many replacement toner cartridges do you keep on hand in your home or office? How many do you go through each year? And is there a cheaper way you could be replacing your toner?
To be clear, toner cartridges are the big, plastic box that pops into your printer and actually delivers the toner (ink) onto the page. When toner runs low you can pop the cartridge out and put in a new one. These new cartridges are expensive. It is partly due to the cost of the toner itself but largely due to the manufacturing cost of the cartridge, which has to have pretty advanced parts in order to respond to the printer and put the ink on the page correctly.
However, just because you run out of toner does not mean you need to throw away that cartridge and replace it. There is such a thing as toner refills. These are jugs of toner, plain and simple. You follow some easy instructions to open the cartridge, then pour new toner into it and close it back up. Put it in the printer and voila, it is working like new.
Trying out toner refills could save you a lot of money. Eventually you will still need to get replacement toner cartridges because they will wear out, but that takes a long time to happen. In the meanwhile you can just keep refilling them over and over with great results. Good luck making the switch and enjoy saving all that money!
When I have printer problems, I used to have a very simple procedure for dealing with. Step one was to hit the printer. Maybe even kind of hard. If that did not work, step two was to call my teenage son and have him take a look at it. If he could not fix whatever was wrong, step three was to give up. Pretty straightforward.
Now, my system has been upset a little. My son has gone off to college and is suspiciously hard to get a hold of on the $400 smart phone I bought for him. Hitting the printer seldom works. I will add in a second, third or even fourth round of whacking it but seldom to any avail. So, in my old age I finally have to get smarter about fixing my printer problems. Time is cruel.
Anyway, I sat down on the computer and did some reading. I found out that the most basic printer problems are not that hard to diagnose and often easy to fix yourself. Easy is a relative term, I guess. When the paper is misfeeding for example I just take a look inside the printer. There is a little rubber roller that grabs the paper and feeds it into the machine. Sometimes it comes off its track and is crooked. That is what causes the misfeeds. So, I just reach in there and pop it back into place and everything works. My wife can never figure it out but it seems easy enough to me.
I never really wanted to be good with computers, or know anything about the internet. I guess I am still not exactly a hacker. But for basic things like fixing the printer I have gotten pretty proficient. If there is hope for an old guy like me there is definitely hope for you.
You probably read a lot of stuff online. The news, cartoons and web comics, friends statuses on Facebook or Twitter… but would you ever read a blog about ink? Why would anyone do that? Well I do read them and I can tell you it is actually a good idea.
When you read up online about ink and toner you are going to save a lot of money. The reason for this is simple. The companies who make printers and ink know what you need. They know that they should price printers and copier low, because it is a one time purchase that will last you for years. However once you buy it you will be looking for the same brand of toner it came with every time you need to refill your ink. Right?
But that means they have you in a bind. Since you need to get ink cartridges that match your printer, and you will have to get those regularly to keep printing, they can charge whatever they want for ink. Did you ever wonder why ink and toner are so expensive? Well that is why.
But there is a way around it. What if I told you generic brands make ink that is compatible with your machine, except theirs is way, way cheaper? Well that is exactly what happens and that is what you can learn from a blog about ink. I am always a fan of being a smart shopper I hope you are too. You can save a lot of money if you just do a little digging first!
What are the advantages and disadvantages of an Inkjet Printer? Well, an inkjet is a pretty serious piece of equipment. It is easily the most common type of personal printer in the average American home, and it is also used in a good number of offices. The inkjet was the standard for quite a few years.
The way an inkjet printer works is the ink cartridge has little nozzles on it. These nozzles spray tiny streams of ink onto the page in the exact places needed to make the overall image or text. This is an altogether analog system which is relatively cheap to manufacture. This low cost is the number one reason ink jet printers were the leading edge of the line for many years during the 90s and early 2000s.
With these printers there are certain drawbacks. In order to use an inkjet printer you need to be willing to do some maintenance. Over time the ink can clog the tubes in the tiny nozzles. That will lead to low quality printing unless you do something about it. The best thing you can do is to take the nozzles off the cartridges and cleanse them by soaking them in warm soapy water. This will soften the ink and let everything work well again.
If you are willing to do this extra little bit of maintenance then you will really have no problem using an inkjet printer. Inkjets are reliable and they produce the same quality print jobs as laser printers, at less cost. They do not always handle volume at the same speed but they are good machines. I highly recommend them if you are in the market for a home printer.
Why would someone read toner reviews? Well, there are actually some pretty good reasons. I work in office supplies and logistics and a big part of my job is keeping a major Fortune 500 company stocked on toner at all of its branches and offices. And I can tell you, those reviews have saved tens of thousands of dollars over the course of any given year.
What are toner reviews? It is what it sounds like. Basically it is reviews of different brands and types of toner that focus on what kind of quality they can deliver, how long they last (number of printed pages), cost, availability, and so forth. This may not sound like terribly relevant data but believe me, you can make good or bad choices on what toner you buy and those differences really do add up.
Let me give you an example. Let us say you need to keep toner in stock for an Epson Stylus CX7800 printer/copier. Normally you would order from Epson. They made the machine and they sell the cartridges you need to refill it. They also sell large jugs of toner you can dump into your existing cartridges if you do not mind refilling yourself. On the other hand, there is a generic brand that makes cartridges that are supposed to be compatible with the 7800 which are even cheaper.
Do you know offhand which of these is the best option? Which one will be cheapest over the long haul, when you factor in print quality and wear and tear on the machine? I would never now which is why I consult toner reviews to make my decisions. If you do the same, I know you will save a lot of money.
Oh my god. So not long ago I got a new job. It is not the worst job, it is a pretty good starting point for someone just out of college. It is an entry level gig and obviously the work is not the most exciting thing in the world, but still, I never thought I would be doing toner research.
What do I mean by toner research? Well basically, I am in charge of all of the office supplies. When something runs low I am supposed to know about it and get us restocked before we run out. It may not be very fun work but it is important. I am sure a lot of you out there have had to do something similar.
The problem comes in with pricing. My boss gives me a very strict budget. I do not think he knows how hard it is to get office supplied for cheap these days. The first two times I went out and got toner for us I over spent and he got very upset. That was when I started doing some research. It turns out that most of the stores that sell toner really rip you off. They are basically charging you extra because they know toner is something you need to run a business and they figure you will pay whatever they ask for it. Well not me. My research turned up that ordering online is a lot cheaper. Not just cheaper than the big box stores, but cheaper even than the office supply catalog put out by your printer company.
Once I figured this out my performance changed significantly. I was able to start getting our toner and other supplies within budget, and even had money left over at the end of my first year. Hopefully that left a good impression on the boss. I would like to move up the ladder and try out some more responsibility!
- When was the first time I read an
- ? Well for me it was around the time I made the switch from buying my toner at a store to buying it online. I am practically religious about this now and I never do things any other way.
The reason I made the switch is cost, plain and simple. After I complained enough about the cost of ink and toner some friends showed me a few websites to illustrate how much cheaper these supplies are online. I as dumbfounded. Apparently websites can sell them for much cheaper because there is no storefront to pay for or any sales associates or anything else. So I was turned on to some pretty major deals.
However it was not an easy transition for me. I am used to asking a lot of questions when I shop. Typically I corner the sales associate and go down a list of things like will this work with my machine, what is the quality like, why does it cost more than this other one, etc. I cannot do that online. But what I can do however if read an ink and toner blog. And it turns out that really covers most of my questions, often in a lot more detail than the teenager who works at the store.
Anyway that is how I made the transition to buying all my ink and toner supplies online. It has saved my business a whole lot of money. The funny thing is, it also makes my life easier. I never go out shopping for this stuff anymore, I just order online and it is sent to me. It is a pretty good system. I hope this helps you too!
Recently my printer melted down. The darn thing completely blitzed a stack of paper and jammed its last jam. Of course this happened in the middle of putting out reports for a major assignment, on the very day I needed to get it all to my boss. Great. Just great. Why does technology always work like this? At the time I did not know I needed a Printer Review Site.
I started to look for a replacement right away. I went down to the office supply store and took a look. They asked what printer I had before and I told them the model number. Of course, they no longer make this model. So I had to figure out in a hurry what exactly I needed, without going over my budget or missing out on any good features. Where to start?
I decided to do research. I always like to make an informed decision, and I never take the sales persons word for what they are telling me. I poured over printer reviews until I felt I had a neutral, unbiased, well informed opinion on which one to get. Only then did I go back to the store and place my order.
For me it all worked out. The new printer I got does the job and does it well, and it did not cost nearly as much as I thought it would. It is this mix of quality and price that a printer review site can really help you find. I hope you have the same luck I had!
So what is your least favorite chore at the office? Mine was always hunting down ink and toner supplies. Ink and toner never come cheap and it seems some people just do not get that. I was always given a ridiculously low budget and told to make it work. If I went over at all it was my head. Well, no longer.
I would go shopping at the office supply stores and shell out the company card to get what we needed. I noticed that by the end of a quarter the budget for office supplies was already gone. I started to wonder if my predecessor had been able to make this shoestring budget work so I gave her a call. She gave me a tip that has really made my life easier.
Now I buy all of our ink and toner supplies online. It is a strict policy I have, no stores, never. Online, the ink and toner companies are competitive. They have less overhead costs because they are not running a physical store, and they pass those savings on. Plus there are many blogs I can use to find out where the best discounts are and how to maximize savings.
Now I come in under budget every time I need to restock us. Learning this simple trick has made my life a lot easier, not to mention endeared me to my boss. Do not fall for those ads they mail out to you
In the world of printing and copying technology there is really no greater divide than the debate between Inkjet vs. Laser Printers. Both types of printers have some advantages but the people on either side do not seem to be able to see that. To a lot of these die hards it is one or the other all the way and that is that. Let us take a look at these two noble printing devices and see what each one can offer.
First off is the laser printer. This device is widely haled at the most advanced printer available for typical home or office use. Laser printers have a high printing rate. They produce crisp, beautiful results every time and they have staying power. However with these advantages come drawbacks. The biggest one for laser printers is the cost. They tend to be the more expensive option.
Now in the other corner we have the inkjet printer. This little guy is a more primitive version of printer. It does not have any fancy lasers. People deride it because you need to periodically rinse its ink nozzles so it does not get a stuffy nose. Be that as it may, when properly maintained the inkjet can produce the same great quality as the laser printer pound for pound. At a fraction of the price that is a tempting deal.
With both sides having advantages, the debate of Inkjet vs. Laser Printers is likely to continue. Which side do you fall on?
